Professional Education Lead
Description
Oversee the FE curriculum, manage academic teams and lead in the areas of teaching, learning, assessment and Learner outcomes. To develop, deliver and assess the BioGrad Education science programmes of study, in line with awarding bodies, that will stretch and challenge all learners. Manage a team of lecturers monitoring their delivery, assessment and record keeping.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee the FE curriculum, manage academic teams and lead in the areas of teaching, learning, assessment and Learner outcomes.
- Oversee all FE provision within BioGrad Education including Skills for Life Bootcamps, Income generated programmes such as level 3, undergraduate and postgraduate provision.
- Manage academic teams to deliver high quality learning programmes that align with awarding organisations and Ofsted.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, awarding organisations, funding agencies and department heads to understand the learning objectives and requirements of the funded learning programmes.
- Lead the design and development of a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the needs of the target audience such as employers, research groups and medical schools.
- Ensure compliance and incorporate proven methodologies to support different learning styles and accessibility into all programmes in line with our policies and procedures.
- Support the department heads in the use of instructional design principles and best practice to create effective and engaging learning materials including course overviews, schemes of work, lesson plans, assessments and a variety of resources.
- Accurately map all Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours and wider curricular criteria to embedded functional skills and information, advice and guidance in all learner journeys.
- Collaborate with the Quality and Assurance Lead, department heads and subject experts to design and develop critical components within the learner journey.
3. Keep policies and procedures up to date and assist in continuing recognition criteria for other awarding bodies.
- Contribute to policy writing and updating and training staff to use policies during their working day.
- Attend and run training sessions and meetings as and when directed by the business or Head of Education.
- Liaise with external examiners and stakeholders where applicable.
- Adhere to policies and procedures in accordance with company standards including safeguarding and GDPR.
- Provide support for team members who are supporting and mentoring our internships and work placements.

2. To develop, deliver and assess the BioGrad Education science programmes of study, in line with awarding bodies, that will stretch and challenge all learners. Manage a team of lecturers monitoring their delivery, assessment and record keeping.
- Possess and utilise a full range of teaching methods to support learning. These may include lectures, laboratory sessions, tutorials and supervision and train others in these methods of delivery.
- Conduct performance reviews and create development plans setting realistic goals which are measurable, and time bound.
- Design teaching materials that allow every learner to access the content required for their course and ensure learning materials are reviewed and updated on a regular basis or as and when required.
- Develop module assessments in line with awarding organisation’s criteria using rationale to support the choice of assessment.
- Understand equal opportunities and how it relates to teaching delivery and academic content.
- To observe, support and train lecturers and liaise with the Quality Assurance Lead where applicable.
- Keep up to date with the latest developments in andragogy and implement these into the module and course programmes.
- Implement these updates by training staff on andragogy and observing lectures to assess their implementation and outcomes.
- Develop networks both internal and external in areas such as Learner recruitment, marketing activity, identifying sources of funding and any other area that develops the BioGrad Education business.
- Delivering group lectures both online and face to face to 20-200 Learners Delivering small group teaching both online and face to face to 1-20 Learners Assess and grade work such as essays, exams, case studies and presentations.
- Course design, development and delivery in line with awarding organisations.
- Provide both formative and summative structured feedback to Learners that allows the Learner to develop their skills and knowledge in a way that challenges them.
4. To ensure all Health and Safety Policies are adhered to keep staff and Learners safe.
- Ensure that equipment and work/teaching areas are routinely cleaned, and equipment maintained
- Work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, Health and Safety guidelines, ISO standards and COSHH guidelines.
- Train staff on SOP’s, H&S guidelines, ISO standards, risk assessments and COSHH
- Understand and perform procedures for spillage of chemical and biological material, and fire alarm procedure. Ensure all staff are trained in this area and adhere to protocols.
- Maintain stock levels of all PPE, equipment and consumables
- Responsible for the health and safety of Learners in the laboratories making sure Learners are not left alone in the laboratory areas.
- Ensure Learners wear appropriate PPE.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Training & Knowledge
- A good relevant honours degree, 2:1 or above, in a Science/clinical/medical related subject or equivalent qualification
- Teaching qualification (PGCE or QTS)
- MSc in relevant field
Skills & Behaviours
- Have experience in FE at senior leadership level
- Be an effective research-informed teacher and assessor on programmes in FE
- Develop teaching materials that allow all Learners full access to resources and teaching aids
- Provide formative and summative assessment and feedback to Learners
- Excellent effective and adaptive teaching skills underpinned by sound pedagogical principles
- Experience of delivering teaching in their chosen specialism
- Ability to support the diverse personal and academic needs of individual Learners
- Ability to work independently using one’s own initiative to reflect on skills, knowledge, session delivery and feedback
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, combined with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with Learners, colleagues and stakeholders
- The ability to work as part of a team with emotional intelligence to support Learners in their studies

- Experience in developing, delivering and leadership of modules and courses in FE
- Experience in developing and supporting academic teams
- Have knowledge of industry standards in science and map outcomes to knowledge, skills and behaviour using IfATE.
- Developing breadth and depth of subject knowledge and evidence of continuing professional development.
- Knowledge or experience of a range of teaching and assessment methods required by awarding organisations.
- Professional and friendly manner coupled with well-developed team working skills
- An understanding of awarding bodies/levels and required standards including level descriptors.
- A desire to learn new skills

£35,000 – £42,000 per annum – 5 days per week including weekends and bank holidays where required
