Teaching and Learner Delivery

• Deliver teaching in mammalian cell culture, ELISA, Western blotting, microbiology and PCR techniques as required.
• Deliver practical and theoretical teaching using appropriate pedagogical methods.
• Provide clear demonstrations and guidance so learners can undertake laboratory techniques safely and competently.
• Use questioning, activities and assessment for learning to check understanding and support learner progress.
• Create an inclusive, engaging and supportive learning environment.
• Plan and prepare teaching sessions, laboratory activities, equipment and resources in advance.
• Adapt teaching appropriately in response to learner needs, progress and feedback.
• Deliver the expected teaching allocation, currently described as 23 weeks or approximately 230 learners per year, subject to operational requirements.

Assessment and Pastoral Support

• Complete learner assessments in line with BioGrad Education policies and relevant awarding or qualification body requirements.
• Provide timely and constructive formative and summative feedback.
• Provide appropriate pastoral support to learners during their programmes.
• Contribute to learner admissions processes, including interviews and selection panels.
• Maintain accurate assessment, attendance, progress and learner-support records.
• Identify concerns relating to learner progress, attendance, welfare or conduct and escalate these appropriately.
• Complete associated administration and pastoral duties.

Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance

• Create, review and update course materials and assessments.
• Ensure course materials and assessments comply with awarding-body requirements and internal quality standards.
• Engage constructively with feedback to improve teaching quality and learner experience.
• Attend standardisation and moderation meetings as required.
• Work with the Quality Assurance Manager to maintain the quality of course materials, assessments and delivery.
• Ensure course equipment is checked and any faults or concerns are addressed before delivery.

External Engagement and Professional Development

• Deliver lectures at schools, universities and other external settings.
• Represent BioGrad Education professionally when engaging with external stakeholders.
• Attend relevant conferences, training and continuing professional development events.
• Maintain and develop subject knowledge, technical competence and teaching practice.
• Prepare research grant submissions where appropriate.
• Contribute to learner engagement, outreach and recruitment activities where reasonably required.

Health and Safety

• Create and review relevant laboratory risk assessments.
• Ensure technicians, learners and lecturing staff understand and follow laboratory health and safety requirements.
• Ensure relevant team members complete required health and safety training and assessments.
• Follow applicable standard operating procedures, control measures and incident-reporting arrangements.
• Report equipment faults, hazards, incidents, near misses and other safety concerns promptly.
