Curriculum and Assessment Education Lead

Description

Lead the national delivery of Biology, Chemistry and Physics practical assessments and teacher Skills Bootcamps at BioGrad Education. The successful candidate will lead a team of teachers and technicians delivering content across multiple UK sites There will also be opportunities to encourage growth in and to diversify our course offer and therefore it is expected that the successful candidate will make a strong contribution to the strategic direction of the company.

£35,000 plus performance related bonus (expected £5,000 – £15,000)

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Management Work directly with senior management team to set national targets for department and support the curriculum and assessment team to meet these expectations. Direct interaction with marketing team to support appropriate marketing campaigns for the courses provision. Co-ordination of laboratory hire, movement of course materials and teacher allocation across multiple UK sites for the provision of courses. Manage teacher recruitment, retention and training within department.

 

  • Health & Safety Review and update all related practical work risk assessments. Have overall leadership responsibility for health and safety within the science practical work sessions. Ensure teachers, technician and learners understand and follow health and safety guidance. Ensure all learners complete the relevant health and safety assessments.

 

 

  • Teaching and Assessment Occasional delivery of small group teaching from 8-15 learners and to support others to effectively do so. Adhere to policies and procedures in accordance with company standards. Complete assessments of learners in line with regulatory requirements and secure accurate records of progress made against assessment criteria for all learners completing courses within this department. Lead and attend training sessions and meetings with teaching and technical staff to support national course delivery. Support team undertaking administrative duties for course feedback. Personally, or support others, to test course equipment and troubleshoot any problems, so that practical work is fit for purpose and is adapted accordingly. To write, review and improve the resources offer on a regular basis, to ensure it is of high quality and fit for purpose. This will include overseeing of others ordering equipment, chemicals and consumables. To network and develop/secure strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders including Tuition Centres, Awarding Organisations, Parents, Universities, Employers and the wider STEM community.

Qualifications, Training & Knowledge

  • BSc in Chemistry or a relevant science teaching degree – Essential – A
  • A Level Practical Endorsement Certification (To be completed if successful) – Essential – A / T
  • Understanding of the British education sector – Essential – A
  • Qualified teacher status and/or experience of teaching in the Higher Education sector – Essential – A
  • MSc or PhD in a relevant science subject – Desirable – A

  • A minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience – Essential – A

  • Experience of assessing A Level Science practicals – Desirable – A / T
